Lower extremity orthotics

Knee brace and gaiter

Knee brace

Knee is the most significant part of the body which is sensitive to pain. It is not only the longest joint in our body but the most complicated one too. As it plays a key role in walking, running and majority of the strength bearing activities, it is more susceptible to injuries and other ailments as well.

To prevent chronic injuries, knee sprain or runner’s knee, it is advisable to wear braces to keep the knee well aligned. It also helps in preventing any re-injuries that might occur.

Knee Gaiter

Knee gaiters are worn on the leg to provide support to the knee and stabilize it thereby preventing excessive movement. Their high support and anti-slip properties enables maximum comfort to the users. We at Bionics India, have the best professional experts, who with the help of cutting-edge technology and superior quality materials, offer fine quality knee gaiter supports to the people in need.

ROM Brace

For multiple orthopedic medical problems relating to knee joints, tendons or ligament injuries etc., ROM braces can be used post-surgery and rehabilitation procedure. Through a multi-point fixation that ranges from 0-120 degrees flexion, the movement of the knee can be easily controlled. These braces are exclusively manufactured with three layered neoprene fabric for maximum comfort between the calf and thigh area. For multiple orthopedic problems, ROM braces are a one stop solution for all.

Game Changer OA Brace

The universally sized Game changer is a kind of osteoarthritis knee brace that perfectly fits from the thigh to the upper part of the calf. For added protection, four durable straps are attached from the thigh to the calf portion and in addition to it buckles help in aligning the locking mechanism making it a durable and comfortable wear

Rebel Reliver

Osteoarthritic (OA) is a chronic joint condition. A joint occurs when two bones come together. The end part of the bones is covered with a protective coating called cartilage. In OA, this cartilage breaks down causing bone to rub together causing severe pain and stiffness in the joints. With the help of Rebel Reliver the OA and similar other conditions can be improved as they are specially designed to stabilize the knee by applying three point corrective forces. Rebel Reliver can treat mild to severe Osteoarthritis.

Rebel Ligament Brace

If you are a professional athlete or any sport lover, preventing your knee from any injury should be an integral part of your daily activity. The rebel ligament braces are ideal for heavy users and contact sports and help in stabilizing and supporting the knee. These are helpful post injury as well as post-surgery and controls ligament instabilities.

DB Splint

Clubfoot is a complex congeniality of the foot, if left untreated, can limit a child’s mobility by making it difficult to walk, stand or run easily. Dennis Brown (DB) splints are a type of foot shoe brace with two adjustable steel clamps that securely holds shoes. It has a splint from the bottom to the shoes that helps in easily adjusting the angle of the foot. They are generally made up of leather that doesn’t irritate the skin.

Walk Aide

Foot drop is a common problem faced by thousands of people worldwide. Limited mobility issues are generally caused in foot drop or people who have suffered strokes, cerebral palsy and spinal cord injury can also suffer from foot drop. In this illness, a person drags his foot and toe while walking. This exaggerated movement causes damage to the hip and back.

Walk aide is a small and discreet control unit that is worn below the knee. Its gentle electrical impulses activate the muscles of the leg to enable the person to raise his foot normally while walking. The result is a more natural looking gait and helps in improving walking ability. It not only helps in increasing range of motion but also reduces atrophy.

Air Walker

Acute ankle sprains and other injuries can be treated with Air Walker. Their streamlined shell is lightweight but still provides maximum comfort to the ankle and leg. Air Walker’s shock absorbing sole eliminates the impact of heel strike while walking/running.

Foot and ankle injuries that require restriction of movement can be quite easily treated through Air Walker.

Insole

Almost every one of us might have faced foot pain at some point in our lives. Many of us are unclear about how to treat it. In this regard, knowing the difference between insole and orthotics becomes important.

Insole or shoe inserts are generally made up of foam or gel and are available at pharmacy stores. They generally tend to replace the normal cushion of the shoes which do not provide much comfort for people with foot issues. Insoles are great for pain relief and especially for those who need to stand for longer hours. They need to be replaced after few months but do not support different shoe sizes.

On the other hand, foot orthotics is custom made and compliment different shoe sizes.

UCBL

Named after University of California- Berkley Lab, UCBL are generally made of plastic and are custom made to align the flexible foot deformity. It differs from other foot orthoses by correcting the heel and also controlling the arch and outside of the forefoot. UCBL is a type of controlling device in which the deep molded cup hold the hind foot while the arch supports the midfoot area

SMO

SMO or Supra Malleolar Orthosis as the name suggests encompasses the leg above the ankle bone or malleolus. SMOs are generally prescribed for those who have flat and flexible foot and are worn by children. They support walking, standing and balancing functions by maintaining a vertical heel and aligning the three arches of the foot.

AFO

Ankle foot orthosis is simply a brace or an orthotic device which has to be worn on the leg that aims to provide good amount of strength to leg and foot muscles. The main function of AFO is to maintain foot in neutral position. Many times you might have observed that a child keeps his/her leg in plantar flexion position where he walks on the tip of his toes and is obviously not an ideal position for walking.

AFO thus, helps to keep the foot in a completely stable position helping the child to walk in a better way. Most of the time, AFO is used for cerebral palsy conditions but it equally helps the patients with spinal cord injuries and traumatic brain injuries etc. It helps the child to walk independently without any efforts. AFOs can be particularly beneficial in those people who have developed foot drop, which can occur following a stroke.

KAFO

A knee ankle foot orthosis helps support and control foot, ankle and knee motion and extends above the knee onto the thigh. KAFOs are often prescribed to control movement for people who have reduced mobility due to conditions like polio and cerebral palsy.

KAFO’s are divided into different classifications depending on the intended function at the knee joint, these are often referred to as ‘free’, ‘locked’ and ‘automatic’ KAFO knee joints. The materials and joints of the KAFO are always selected according to the patient’s ability, following a clinical assessment from one of our team.”

Lower limb extremities can be resolved by maintaining the proper alignment and motion of the body. Broken bones, arthritic joints or paralysis are few examples of this. To improve the ability and quality of walking/standing, lower limb orthotics are needed to correct these deformities. A Knee Ankle Foot Orthotics (KAFO) is an entire leg brace and spans across the whole leg, ankle and foot and supports the joints and muscles and prevents excessive joint movement.

AFO Dorsiflexion Assist

Generally prescribed for foot drop and weak dorsiflexion, AFO provides a dorsiflexion assist which aids in swing phase of gait for increased toe clearance and safety. It helps in aligning ligament instabilities and in turn provides lateral stabilization. It also ensures knee stability by allowing smooth flexion from heel to foot.

FRO

FRO known as Floor reaction Orthosis is generally prescribed for children with cerebral palsy who walk with a crouched gait which is characterized by increased hip and knee flexion. FRO is a custom made orthosis of polypropylene or carbon fiber reinforced polypropylene. This custom fabricated device supports ankle and the foot area. It holds the ankle and prevents the heel from touching the ground.

Fracture Brace

A fracture brace is a device that is worn on the lower leg that helps in the correct alignment of the injured bone. It aims to soften the tissue in the leg so as to limit the motion. It is important to note that in an effective fracture brace, the straps and the plastic shell remain intact over the shin bone to enable proper healing. The basic purpose of a fracture brace is to allow controlled movement within the brace for healing.
